Happy New Year Team!
I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. If you haven’t already, you make want to start thinking about your upcoming race season. We are gaining a bit of sunlight every day and it won’t be long before Spring has sprung. Hopefully you all received some nice new toys that will help you with your training and racing. Maybe these new toys are motivating you to build your endurance base and work on your swimming form. Maybe some of you got indoor bike trainers as presents and are working on cadence and power drills! (-:
Me, I got a new Garmin Virb Ultra 30 action camera and so far I’m loving it. It’s water proof while in its case I’ve brought to the pool to film myself swimming for the purpose of critiquing my form. And wow, there is a lot critiquing necessary!!! This is a great time of year to be working on your swimming and getting yourself some underwater footage of your form is a great way to learn what you need to work on to improve. For a good laugh, here are a few seconds me swimming in slow motion. As you can see, I need a lot of work!

I also took advantage of the 50 degree day in January and did some loops of Blackstone Blvd. This video is long and I’m sure you don’t need to watch all 20 miles of it. But it’s great to see the data the camera can capture from all my gadgets. I’ve synched it with my heart rate monitor and power meter and it has a GPS built into it. Seeing all the data on the screen is pretty cool. On a side note, I would suggest being nicer and safer than myself when you ride. Especially in regards to the city bus at the 33:30 minute mark, and to the mom’s pushing carriages at the 45:40 minute mark (although I did slow down and say excuse me).

Good luck with the training and let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
