Club Mission & History

Club Mission

The Ronald McDonald House of Providence Running Club promotes the benefits of health, wellness, fitness, and competition among people of all ages and abilities through running and walking. We support our members with motivation, encouragement and coaching to attain personal goals and top performance. The Club provides an enjoyable social atmosphere, while publicizing and promoting the mission of our local Ronald McDonald House of Providence.

That’s the mission taken on by over 200 men and women of all shapes, sizes, ages, abilities, professions, and outlooks who make up the RMHP Running Club. Some (few) are nationally competitive within their age groups; some completely only with themselves. All of us benefit from the volunteer services of legendary professional coaches.

Mostly, we run. Stretching, fitness, and speed workouts once a week, group runs/walks weekends, and (optional) individual workouts with the coaches. Broken into goal and ability groups so the 9-minute milers training for a marathon aren’t running sprints with the <6-minute milers training for an indoor mile.

And we help the House. Most people don’t realize that the fantastic services provided by the Ronald McDonald House are primarily dependent on contributions from outside their corporate namesake. Every member of the RMHP Running Club raises visibility for the House simply by wearing a club shirt at local races. Club volunteers prepare dinner for the residents once a month; others have raised thousands of dollars in pledges for races like the Falmouth Road Race, Boston Marathon, Amica Marathon and Rock ‘n Roll 1/2 Marathon.

Club History

The Ronald McDonald House of Providence Running Club began in 2006 with a small band of runners who wanted to raise awareness for the House while sharing a love for running. Today the club of over 200 men and women, ranging in age from 18 to 85, includes serious competitors as well as walkers, joggers, and those running for fitness. The four volunteer coaches offer a variety of training days and times each week.

While it is not a requirement to help the House, our club has been able to raise over $50,000 for the RMHP each of the past few years. We are proud of our signature event, the Women’s 5K Classic, a 3k walk and 5k run, held each October.

Ronald McDonald House
The Ronald McDonald House of Providence provides support for families of hospitalized children. This allows families spend additional time with a sick child, help ease financial burdens, provide a sense of normalcy and keep families together during times of medical crisis.
